My Jewelry Journey:

When I was a kid I wanted to be a pirate when I grew up, I was so fascinated by all their treasures and trinkets. I am lucky to have extremely creative and artistic parents which allowed my to explore many art mediums growing up. When I headed off for school at The Evergreen State College I had the pleasure of discovering jewelry design outside of academics. I began my journey like many jewelry designers, through wire wrapping along side my closest friend John Colin Ross. We were fortunate to have a friend and mentor Sam Manship, who has made a career out of creating beautiful wire wraps. After spending months of practicing the delicate craft, I asked myself "How are traditional engagement rings and pendants made?".

Fueled by my newly discovered passion I determined to expand my skillset and knowledge through education. In 2015, I had the privilege of being able to attend one of the final programs at Revere Jewelry Academy in San Francisco before Alan Revere closed the doors for good. I was blown away by the wealth of knowledge that I was consuming from jewelry fabrication to stone setting and casting. I knew right then and there that jewelry designing was what I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing.

After graduating from Revere, I continued to create my own fabricated jewelry on a daily basis, pushing my skills further with each work of art. Though I felt like I needed additional training in more complex stone setting techniques, so I scoured the country for another jewelry school. I found The Portland Jewelry Academy (PJA) and moved to Portland in 2016 to embark on my next chapter in jewelry design. PJA owner and teacher, Jason Chandler offered an intensive curriculum which challenged me and made me feel like I was training for my future. Many jewelry programs offer different projects each day of class in order to cover as many aspects of the jewelry trade as possible in a short amount of time. At PJA we spent multiple days focusing on individual techniques, which allowed me to feel like I was actually gaining the skills as apposed glazing over material and getting just a glimpse of the possibilities.

Fast forward a few years, I was growing tired of my non jewelry day job and wanted to explore a career in the jewelry industry and take my hobby to the next level. I landed a job at Blue Nile in Seattle as a bench jeweler and spent my days on the production line assembling and sizing engagement rings for customers around the globe. I quickly began to feel like it wasn't feeding creativity and I wasn't gaining many new skills and before I was able to transition to a full time stone setting the pandemic hit and I was laid off.

Eager to continue down the jewelry design path, I decided to explore CAD jewelry programs and after consulting with some of my jewelry idols I discovered MatrixGold, one of the most advanced jewelry design software on the market. I purchased the program and spent all of 2020 teaching myself how to design jewelry in CAD. Today, I am proud and fortunate to own my own jewelry business. I strive to hammer my mark in history as professional jewelry designer, to push my passion to the next level every day and surround myself with the treasures and trinkets I dreamed of having as a kid.
